We developed a marketing concept for Kamp-Lintfort with which the city applied as venue for the State Horticultural Show 2020 last year. The flower show will take place in 2020 and Kamp-Lintfort received the contract of this show based on its concept and ideas. The confirmation as venue also initiated the start of the show preparations.
To present a smooth and well-prepared show, different traffic and infrastructural actions are necessary. In order to acquire aid money for the different measures, a formulated tourism guideline is a prerequisite. We are happy that Kamp-Lintfort asked us again to develop this tourism guideline.
The guideline is based on comprehensive research, including field visits as well as desk research. Moreover, a workshop took place, whose results also build an essential basis for the tourism guideline.
The basic research mainly comprises desk research and accounts for an essential foundation of the touristic status quo in Kamp-Lintfort. Therefore, different statistics, the tourism supply and the tourism concepts of supra-regional tourism associations were considered and analyzed.
During our destination check, we took a closer look at Kamp-Lintfort. Thereby, the online research of the tourism supply was an important part; however, several incognito field visits were necessary. Based on a checklist, different aspects were evaluated, including the service of the tourist information office, tourist attractions, accommodations, signposts etc. We actually acted as a clueless tourist who is reliant on the information provided on-site. Of course, all this was done with a critical glance.
The participants of the workshop were employees of the city of Kamp-Lintfort who are involved in the planning of the State Horticultural Show 2020 and an employee of the association Niederrhein Tourismus. COMPASS’ Managing Director Karsten Palme led the workshop with the objective to get answers to crucial questions:
- Where should tourism in Kamp-Lintfort go?
- How can Kamp-Lintfort position itself at the interface between Niederrhein (Lower Rhine) and Ruhrgebiet (Ruhr district)?
- How can we create a successful cooperation with supra-regional tourism associations?
Besides answering these questions, tourism targets were formulated, too. Amongst those the following ones were mentioned: Quantitative increase of tourism, shaping the destination’s profile, enhancing its image, creation of short trip offers, development and preservation of the touristic infrastructure, increase of the awareness level, development/expansion of supra-regional cooperation.
Final formulation of the tourism guideline
Conclusively, we formulated the guideline based on the obtained information we worked out and on our expertise as tourism consultants. Besides the results of our research and the workshop, the guideline also contains recommendations for taking action in order to implement the measures that are necessary to achieve the objectives set before. As a general result, we concluded, that there is a lot of hidden tourism potential in Kamp-Lintfort.
